MA in Creative Writing, Theatre and Culture Industries: Artistic, Research and Pedagogical Applications
The MA in Creative Writing, Theatre and Cultural Industries is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme offered by the Department of Theatre Studies, University of the Peloponnese.
The programme offers two specialist pathways, eight taught modules during the first two semesters, and the completion of either a Master's Dissertation or a professional internship in the third semester. Teaching combines academic study with practice-based workshops led by distinguished scholars and experienced professionals from the fields of theatre, creative writing, publishing, and the cultural industries.
The programme welcomes graduates from all academic disciplines who wish to develop their expertise in theatre writing, dramaturgy, adaptation, translation, dramatic criticism, performance, and cultural journalism.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced knowledge and practical expertise in creative writing, with particular emphasis on theatre and related artistic practices, developed through workshops and seminars led by leading academics and creative practitioners;
- apply professional methods of editing, publishing, and producing creative work for the theatre and the wider cultural and creative industries, preparing them for careers in research institutions, cultural organisations, theatres, theatre companies, festivals, publishing houses, the Ministry of Culture, regional and local authorities, educational institutions, and other cultural organisations in Greece and internationally;
- design and implement creative writing projects for artistic, educational, and community settings, promoting creativity, communication, collaboration, and social inclusion;
- undertake independent academic research in areas including creative writing, theatre and literary history, pedagogy, and the social applications of creative practice, while also producing original artistic, literary, editorial, or dramaturgical work in fields such as playwriting, adaptation, translation, and creative production across theatre, film, music, publishing, digital media, and related cultural industries;
- develop the pedagogical knowledge and teaching skills required to deliver creative writing in formal and non-formal educational contexts, community organisations, NGOs, municipalities, and other public and private institutions.
Curriculum
The curriculum covers the principal areas of creative writing in relation to theatre and the cultural and creative industries. Students explore subjects including:
- creative approaches to Classical and Modern literature;
- theatre writing and dramaturgy;
- publishing and editorial practices;
- the development and management of creative projects within cultural organisations;
- educational and community applications of creative writing; and
- interdisciplinary applications of creative writing across the arts and creative industries, including film.
Throughout the programme, students engage with both theoretical perspectives and professional practice, preparing them for careers in the arts, education, publishing, research, and the wider cultural sector.
